Dame dos mas! 

Growing up Cuban, croquetas were a staple in my home. On the weekends, my dad would wake up before the rest of us and head to the bakery to gather supplies. Cuban bread and a variety of pastelitos and croquetas. The obsession has grown and it’s now fueled by Dos Croquetas.

October 2016, Dos Croquetas emerged as the first of it’s kind — an artisanal craft croqueta company established by my family. Yes, I might be biased, but I PROMISE you when I say these are amazing! You’ve probably seen their mouthwatering Instagram posts of their homemade sauces drizzled across the most impeccable looking croqueta. Each croqueta is hand rolled to perfection, if it’s not the best looking croqueta, they’re not serving it to you.

Headed by Chef Vicky Carballo and marketing genius, Alec Fernandez, Dos Croquetas uses only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. There is Angus ground beef in their Angus Cheddar Burger croqueta. Where else can you get a burger in the form of a croqueta?  I stopped by their pop-up location, located at 7340 NW 35 Street, Miami, FL, to hangout for a bit and talk food.

Me: Why croquetas?

DC: Because croquets are life! Whether its breakfast, snack, late night or party time; croquetas always hit the spot.

Me: What inspires your flavors?

DC: We love food, and we love our city!  We wanted to incorporate both loves into the quintessential croqueta with flavors as diverse as Miami.  We saw a niche in the market to highlight the wonders of our beloved croqueta, paired with all of our in-house daily made sauces.

Me: What do you think has been the driving factor in your success? I mean you’ve barely been open a year and you’ve already been featured in the holy grail of food events: SoBe Food & Wine.

DC: We use quality ingredients to create layers of flavor for an “OMFG!” croqueta experience. Croquetas traditionally were made with leftover bits of meat.  At Dos Croquetas, we use 100% chicken breast in our Buffalo Crack Chicken, Angus Beef in our 305 & Cheddar Burger croquetas, fresh plantains & corn on the cob; nothing frozen or canned.   We make croquetas, WE want to eat!  

Our customers are important to us; they’re treated as family.  Croquetas are what’s for dinner now as we see families order meals that include croquetas, #notsomini preparadas, hand crafted shakes & our dessert bites.  We strive for excellent customer service and always follow up with them to ensure that they had a great Dos Croquetas experience.

Me: So, what’s next?

DC: We’re currently scouting locations for a permanent spot. Also, we’re excited to share a few more wholesale partnerships that will be announced later this year.   In the meantime, you can find us at pop-ups around town.  Our current pop-up location is in the Doral Warehouse District: 7340 NW 35 Street, Doral, FL 33122  (look for the pink neon lights and you’ll know you’ve arrived ✌).  Follow us on Instagram @doscroquetas for more pop-up locations & events. 

Open Tuesday through Sunday, now being serviced by UberEats and PostMates, you can get your croqueta fix taken care of well into the late evening. And if you’re really hungry, my personal favorite is the mini preparadas with the 305 croqueta. The 305 is filled with Cuban style picadillo, queso blanco, plantains, and drizzled in their guava aioli topped with mariquitas.
